Hours: Monday- Friday 08.00-16.00
Pay: £31,945 annual pay.

Join our team at Birmingham Airport as a Ramp and Skills Trainer, playing a crucial role who is responsible for delivering high-quality, compliant training across all areas of PRM (Passengers with Reduced Mobility) and ramp operations. The role ensures that all staff are fully equipped to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-focused assistance and ground handling services in line with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), and Wilson James standards.

This position involves developing, delivering, and evaluating both theoretical and practical training, supporting ongoing staff development, and fostering a culture of safety, inclusion, and service excellence across the airport operation.

About the Role:

As a Ramp and Skills Trainer, you will be responsible for:

  •  Training Delivery: Deliver initial and recurrent training for PRM and ramp operations, including:
  •  Equipment handling, manual handling, and mobility device use (wheelchairs, aisle chairs, Ambi lifts, buggies, etc.).
  • Passenger assistance techniques for boarding, deplaning, and airport transit.
  • Customer service and communication skills to support passengers with diverse needs.
  • Conduct both classroom and on-the-job coaching sessions, providing constructive feedback and assessing staff competence.
  • Ensure training aligns with CAA, ECAC DOC 30, EC 1107/2006, and airport-specific regulations.

Customer Service Excellence:

  • Train staff on delivering excellent customer service to passengers with reduced mobility, focusing on empathy, communication skills, and sensitivity to diverse needs.
  • Provide guidance on how to assist passengers in a respectful and dignified manner, ensuring they feel comfortable and always supported.

 

Safety and Compliance:

 

  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure adherence to Health & Safety, Disability Awareness, and Manual Handling protocols.
  • Maintain up-to-date training materials reflecting current legislation, airline, and airport procedures.
  • Ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures and the safe operation of all PRM and ramp equipment.
  • Support incident and complaint investigations with training-related insights.

What we are looking for:

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Teaching qualification (AET/ PTLLS or equivalent) o Previous experience working with passengers with reduced mobility (PRM), in customer service, or in an airport setting.
  • Experience in training and mentoring others, with the ability to clearly communicate concepts and demonstrate techniques.
  • Be able to demonstrate classroom training alongside on-the-job training
  • Be able to demonstrate experience handling vehicles of various sizes o Competent in IT systems and maintaining accurate records

Preferred:

  • Certification in first aid, CPR, or emergency response.
  • Train the trainer certification in line with assisted travel

Qualifications and Licenses.

Essential

  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Train the Trainer certification or equivalent.
  • AET Teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • First Aid qualification.

Desirable

  • Manual Handling Instructor certification.
  • HGV Licence.
  • Airside Driving Permit (ADP) or willingness to obtain.
