Operating from the Security Control Room, the role involves continuous oversight of CCTV, access control, alarm systems, and communication networks to ensure a timely and appropriate response to security, safety, and operational matters. The officer acts as a central point of coordination, assisting in the deployment of frontline staff, maintaining accurate incident records, and supporting communication between security teams, museum departments, contractors, and emergency services when required.
This position contributes directly to the protection of the Museum's buildings, collections, and assets, while also helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and contractors. Through vigilance, professionalism, and effective communication, the Security Control Room Officer plays an essential part in ensuring the Museum always operates securely and efficiently. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm under pressure in a busy operational environment.
About the Role:
As a Control Room Officer, you will be responsible for:
- Welcoming staff and visitors and creating a safe, professional atmosphere
- Conducting regular patrols and monitor premises to prevent unauthorised access, theft, or vandalism.
- Monitoring access points, CCTV, and handling security procedures
- Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, and security incidents, taking appropriate action as needed.
- Complete detailed reports on daily activities, incidents, and any security concerns.
- Assist in emergency situations, including evacuations and first aid support if required.
- Adapting to different client sites – no two days are the same
- Responding calmly and confidently to incidents or concerns
- Working as part of a diverse, supportive team

What we are looking for:
- To hold a current DS SIA Licence
- Proven experience in a security role or a similar position.
- Strong observational skills with the ability to identify and respond to security threats.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, visitors, and authorities.
- Ability to remain calm and act decisively in high-pressure situations.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- A valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
- A valid SIA CCTV Licence.
- A current First Aid at Work certificate.
