Finding and applying for that perfect role can feel a little daunting at first. We’ve listed answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below to help make the process that bit easier.
The only way to be considered for a role at Wilson James is to apply for a vacancy via our Careers page, or associated job boards. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that your CV will be acknowledged if submitted via any other route. To receive information about our latest openings, sign up for vacancy alerts on our Careers page.
Each advert will specify if there are any job specific qualifications/licences required in order to be considered. We do assist our employees in obtaining some role specific licences if they do not hold them or maintaining these if renewal is needed.
At Wilson James, we provide excellent training and development, cover SIA licence costs (where applicable), offer a minimum of 5.6 weeks annual leave entitlement, auto enrolment pension scheme and death in service benefits. We also provide several wellbeing resources including access to Mental Health First Aiders and use of an Employee Assistance Programme. Benefits may vary depending on the role and location.
We endeavour to respond to all applicants. However, if we receive a large number of applications for a specific vacancy, unfortunately this is not always possible.
- Read the job description so that you understand the role and responsibilities and can demonstrate that you have the right skills to meet the criteria.
- Do your research – take a look at our website or speak to someone who knows who already works here.
- Prepare some example questions and practise your answers.
- Consider your appearance and dress accordingly. All our employees act as ambassadors for Wilson James, and we expect our people to be smart and professional.
- Ask questions.
- Relax – just be yourself!
- Try to bring the appropriate ID with you, and we recommend having the below information to hand:
- Right to work documents: passport (with EU Settlement Scheme status if applicable) or birth certificate and proof of NI number;
- Proof of address: driving licence, utility bill or bank statement issued within the last 2 months and a 5-year checkable work history (obtained via HMRC online).
You can find a ‘Vacancy Alerts’ button in the 'Careers' dropdown menu at the top of the website on all pages. Once selected, you can create or login into an account and set your preferences.
This is possible, but you should think carefully about the type of role that will suit you and your goals, and only apply for appropriate vacancies.
If you are looking for opportunities near you and your location is not appearing in the vacancy list it means that there are currently no vacancies available in that area. If you have enabled job alerts then you will be emailed once an appropriate vacancy goes live.
If you are interested in joining Wilson James, all vacancies for our sites, both full and part-time will be advertised via our Careers page.
Our system will be sending you emails in the background, so this might just be informing you that you can progress to the next stage. If there are any stages you have not yet completed, you’ll need to do so by logging into your account and completing before you can submit your final application.
You can monitor the progress of your application by logging into your account. Any outcomes will be issued via email, so be sure you have the correct email address listed in your account. Also keep an eye on your junk mail folder just in case anything lands in there.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications we receive, we are only able to offer individual feedback to candidates who reach the interview stage.
If you are invited to an interview, you will receive a text or email notification informing you that this is the case. A number of time slots will be added to your profile. You will need to log into your account to confirm your preferred time slot.
Please make contact with the interviewer as soon as you can so that an alternative date can be arranged.
You should ensure that you research the Company and the site at which you have an interview. Expect to tell us why you want the job, why you’re leaving any current position, and what your strengths are. Be prepared to address any gaps you might have in your experience or career history and please bring your ID and proof of address with you.
Do not rush your application, and avoid applying for jobs where the salary, location or conditions are not suitable. Once you have an interview make sure that you plan your journey and arrive on time (or ideally, early) and if something comes up and you are concerned that you are going to be late or not be there at all then please let us know.
We will be happy to make reasonable adjustments on a case-by-case basis. Just let us know.
Right to Work documents are legally required from all candidates to provide evidence of their entitlement to work in the UK. These documents will be checked and verified by the person conducting your interview. Failure to provide satisfactory evidence of your right to work in the UK will prevent your application progressing.
It is our legal obligation to ensure that anyone we are looking to employ is legally entitled to work in the UK before their employment begins.

We will let you know if we have added you to one of our talent pools for future consideration. If we haven’t told you this, then you can set up a job alert from within your careers profile and we’ll email you as soon as a matching role is posted.
Currently, we are only able to accept CVs via our website for existing vacancies. You can find all of our opportunities on our Careers page, or you can register for alerts as detailed above.
We don’t offer a graduate scheme at the moment, however this may change in the future. If this changes, our website will be updated with further information.
We are sorry to say that this means that you do not meet the essential pre-qualification criteria for the role.
Please reach out to your interviewer directly who will work with you to rearrange a suitable date and time.
